Welcome back! July is promising to be a very busy calendar month in London with events such as Gay Pride, Wimbledon Championship and lots of music concerts around the city.
Here are my top recommendations of what to do or see during July:
1. Pride in London 2022: 2nd July 2022
Thanks to the city’s wealth of queer bars, clubs, nights and other spaces, London’s LGBTQ+ scene is among the most fabulous in the world. But, it’s Pride Month when the LGBTQ+ celebrations really take off, as Pride in London fills the city with LGBTQ+-themed events, protests and parties. At its very centre is the annual Pride parade.
After a two-year hiatus of live streaming and cancellations, the parade is making an epic IRL return. This year’s parade promises to be extra-special as it marks 50 years since the very first Pride march in 1972. In celebration of this, the 2022 march will retrace the route of the historic inaugural 1972 parade.
The route will begin in Hyde Park, where the first post-march picnic took place. Setting off from Hyde Park Corner, the procession will head down to Picadilly Circus, then turn south on to Haymarket and Trafalgar Square, before ending in Whitehall Place.
2. Wimbledon Tennis Championships
Wimbledon is one of London’s biggest and most exciting sporting events. The Championships are the oldest in the world and attract more than 500,000 spectators every year thanks to their unique mix of super-competitive matches and olde-worlde British charm.
Running from Monday June 27-Sunday July 10, it all takes place in London’s gorgeous, leafy SW19, at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, which has been its home since 1877.
3. BST Hyde Park: 8th until 10th July 2022
It’s been an exciting fixture in London’s musical calendar since 2013, and now British Summer Time Hyde Park is back with a line-up of some of the biggest music stars on the planet.
In July, treat your ears to sets from Adele, The Rolling Stones, Pixies, Pearl Jam and Duran Duran. It’s going to be epic!
4. Wireless festival: 1st until 10th July 2022
This year the Wireless line-up is spectacular. So spectacular, in fact, that the 2022 edition is throwing parties across three sites: in Crystal Palace Park, Finsbury Park and Birmingham.
Taking place across the first two weekends in July, this mammoth celebration of hip hop will see performances from ASAP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator, Cardi B, J Cole, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Burna Boy. And it doesn’t stop there. Other acts, including Playboi Carti, Rico Nasty, Baby Keem, Roddy Ricch, Little Simz, Polo G, Jack Harlow and Nicki Minaj will also be playing slots at the festival.
5. Lavender fields in and around London
Lavender season usually runs from June to September, peaking in August, and there are plenty of opportunities to lay your eyes – and nose – on the stuff. Kennington Park, Kew Gardens and Vauxhall Park are top London destinations for lavender and there are farms dedicated to the mauve blooms just outside the capital, in Kent, Surrey and Hertfordshire.
And there you are… lots to do!
