The best lavender fields in and around London

Mayfield Lavender

Founded in 2006 by Brendan Maye, who previously worked in the luxury fragrance industry for Wella UK and Procter & Gamble, Mayfield Lavender is a 25-acre organic farm planted on a Victorian site used when the local area was home to a booming lavender industry in the nineteenth century.

The business grows two varieties of iridescent blue English lavender on the chalky soil, with flowers harvested and distilled to produce lavender oil, which is sold at the farm alongside culinary products, toilets and other aromatic gifts made using it.

The farm is open to visitors during the summer season each year, from around mid-June to mid-August.

Castle Farm

Forget Provence. Take a day trip to Castle Farm’s lavender fields, which give the French purple rows a run for their money. With 95 acres of the crop, the folks at Castle Farm cultivate the largest lavender farm in the country, extracting oils in a steam distillery.

Keep an eye out for a colourful fleet of hot air balloons

The 2025 Lord Mayor’s Balloon Regatta is coming to London…

When is the 2025 Lord Mayor’s Balloon Regatta in London?

Could 2025 be the year that the balloons soar high above the city once more? We hope so. Following a failed attempt in May, this year’s Lord Mayor’s Hot Air Balloon Regatta is now next set to take place on Sunday, July 20.

What time does the event start?

If the weather holds up, the balloons will take to the skies at 5.30am from Battersea Park. By sunrise, you should be able to see the whole parade of balloons floating peacefully above iconic London landmarks Buckingham Palace and the London Eye to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.

And there you are. Enjoy it and make the most of your time in London.

See you all in August.
